There is a new application called "Voice Text Pro" which is made for the apple iphone and the ipod touch. This new application lets you have hands free voice activating text messaging. On the "Voice this" website, I read that because so many states have the no texting or using the phone while driving, you can now text without pressing a button. You are able to create, edit, and delete saved messages. There is a video on this website which tells you how to use the application and actually shows you how it works.
This application is the only one out there as of now for the apple iphone and or ipod touch. The idea for this application came from "people should be able to talk to computers, and that computers should understand what we're saying." On CNN the article says "Mobile voice-recognition technology now allows people to send text messages to friends by talking instead of typing; be able to scan throught transcriptions of voice mail instead of having to listen to them all; tell the phones what theya re looking for on the web; and soon to post twitter from your phone verbally."
Right now, there is also a phone called the Google Nexus One which comes with two microphones, one for the voice of the person and the other for the noise that may interfere with the persons voice. With this new second microphone it makes it easier for the phone to determine what noise is human and what isn't. I feel that every single year, let alone every month there is something changing technologically. What will be next???

I have a question for you: is actually talking to another human being that horrible? Technology can be very cool; however, when does it become too much--too much money, too much effort, too distant from other humans? I think, right now anyway, companies that work in technology just like to show-off what they can create, without those creations actually possessing helping ability to the public. Unfortunately, technology tends to make human contact less and less important, which ultimately is not a good thing for people and people relationships.
ReplyDeleteThis can go two ways. I agree with the fact that it will make traveling safer since everybody texts and drives which cuases accidents daily. But it also defeatst he purpose of texting. i mean texting is something u can do without making noise, like in class or when you dont want to say something out loud when other people around, that is the beauty of texting and now its starting to fade.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very interesting topic, because I sometimes get lazy texting and my fingers get numb. I think this is a good way to text, but at the same time its not. It's good, because people can text faster. Speaking of the people that text and drive can be safer and can reduce accidents. It's not a good thing, because students like to text during class or at a meeting, so this wouldn't be very handy in that case. Overall, I like the idea, because I get lazy sometimes and don't feel like texting.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a really cool way to text! Especially becausee in Hawaii, a law passed last year that does not let you use your cell phone at all while driving. If caught, you will be pulled over and get a ticket. This is a really good way to text because it is hands free. I mean, if i were to be driving and talking to my cell phone on my lap, people in other cars would probably be thinking who is this girl talking to but i think this is a clever way to not use phones while driving
ReplyDeleteI agree with you all that it would be great to make sure no one texts while they drive. It would be a lot safer if you could have your phone do the texting for you as you drove and talked. I also agree that out of when you are driving that is, it defeats the purpose of texting. Texting is to text a quick message quietly, how could you accomplish this through talking to your phone? Technology changes so rapidly that none of us can keep up haha, although I do think most inventions are great and can make living easier or safer.
ReplyDeleteWhile I agree having a hand free phone which could send texts through voice activated phone system, have people forgotten about the capability to have telephone conversations on speaker phone. I feel that people have lost some capabilities to communicate one on one by not talking on the phone. I know several people who would rather text someone than actually talk on the phone because they do not feel confident enough to simply carry on a normal conversation. I think we need to focus on some of the basics of communication before exploring new and initiative ways to expand. I agree the new era of technology is fascinating, but is it necessary?
